When you update the routing information of a booking, if the changes are propagated to the associated units, it is referred to as rolling. The rolling is triggered even if the line operator changes one of the following fields that contain the routing information for the booking:
Vessel Visit (and Vessel Service)
Port of Load
Port of Discharge
Second Port of Discharge
Optional POD 1
Optional POD 2
Origin
Destination
Shipper
Consignee
If you modify one of the preceding field, all other fields are updated (without a message or a warning) for the units associated with the booking. For example, if you only change the Origin specified in the booking and enable the rolling, then the values in other fields are updated in the associated units to match the value in the booking.
When you roll a booking for the Active and Advised units that are associated with the booking, N4 updates both the O/B Actual visit and the O/B Declared visit.
Perform the following steps to access the Auto Roll, Vessel Cutoff Auto Roll, and Roll Late Container functionalities:
In N4, open the Line Operators form (Configuration -> Organizations -> Line Operators)
Right-click the required line operator and click to edit the record. N4 displays the Edit Line Operator form.
On the Booking Rules tab, select the required drop down or check box.
Auto Roll
Auto roll field enables the line operator to configure whether updating a booking, result in the rolling of units that are advised or received for the booking.
Select one of the following options from the Auto Roll drop-down on the Booking Rules tab to define the rolling behavior at the line operator level:
Containers are not rolled when a booking rolls: Specifies that the routing information in the booking is not automatically rolled to the associated units. This is the default option.
Containers are rolled when a booking rolls: Specifies that the routing information in the booking is automatically rolled to the associated units if all the validations are successful.
Only advised containers are rolled when booking rolls: Specifies that the routing information in the booking is automatically rolled to the associated units only if they are in the Advised or Inbound transit state and if all the validations are successful.
Vessel Cutoff Auto Roll
In addition to the preceding Auto Roll options, you can also use the Vessel Cutoff Auto Roll options to specify whether the cutoff time for the new or the old vessel visit will affect the rolling of units associated with the booking or not.
Select one of the following options from the Vessel Cutoff Auto Roll drop down on the Booking Rules tab:
Vessel cutoffs are not checked when containers are rolled with booking roll: N4 does not check any of the vessel cutoff times when updating the containers.
Vessel cutoffs for the booking's new vessel are checked when containers are rolled with booking roll: N4 checks the vessel cutoff times only for the new vessel visit associated with the booking when updating the containers.
If any of the cutoff times for the new vessel visit have passed, N4 does not update the containers associated with the booking.
Vessel cutoffs for booking's new vessel and container's old vessel are checked when containers are rolled with booking roll: N4 checks the vessel cutoff times for the new vessel visit associated with the booking and the old vessel visit associated with the container when updating the containers.
If any of the cutoff times for the new vessel visit associated with the booking or the old vessel visit associated with the container have passed, N4 does not update the containers associated with the booking.
If none of the above conditions applies, unit is updated with the routing information of the booking. In addition, a UNIT_ROLL event is registered for the unit. You can view the events registered for a unit on the Event History tab in the Unit Inspector form.
N4 provides warning messages for the units associated with the booking that cannot be rolled, and rolls the remaining units.
Roll Late Container
Select this check box if the line operator wants to roll any containers that arrive past the cutoff time for a vessel visit to the next active vessel visit for the same service as that of the originally planned outbound carrier, automatically. In this case, N4 determines the next vessel visit as the visit with the earliest estimated time of arrival.
N4 rolls the late containers regardless whether the RejectCarrierVisitPhaseDeparted business task is included in the gate configuration. At the gate, N4 provides the proposed new vessel visit information in the <GateStage> tab. The roll does not occur until the gate clerk saves the transaction.
Most line operators do not allow late containers to be rolled to the next vessel.
